Construction Carpenter

What an average construction carpenter make. I was happy to learn… That depends on his or her skill level and what area of the country they live in — it is different everywhere. The national average for a full journeyman finish carpenter is around $22 an hour, but in New York City where the unions are still strong it is 90% more (around $40) and in Durham, North Carolina it is only around $10 an hour since most building trades are non-union and there is an excess of labor now due to the slow down in building. A first year apprentice only gets about half that rate but would get an automatic raise mostly all 6 months. Carpentry apprenticeships are mostly 3 years long. Tell me what city you are in and I can give you the exact rate.
