Drive Systems

I drive a 2002 ford Taurus V6 automatic which I'd 18mpg, and I feel like I'm my car guzzles gas like crazy, there are 3 drives, a D in a highligted orange square another D and a1. Any help please. Essentially — you should drive in either D and never 1, the orange highlighted D is the highest gear, it has the over drive which allows it to shift into the highest possible gear, typically this is the D you should use, the other D can be used but is mostly used for pulling or carrying heavy loads, the 1 is a very low gear and used when stuck in mud or snow , it's very slow and should never be used unless needed.

Starring: Ryan Gosling, Carey Mulligan, Albert Brooks, Bryan Cranston, Ron Perlman A Los Angeles wheelman for hire must shift gears . . .

Highlighted D, that is overdrive. Check your fuel/air filters, and plugs, that rig should not be getting more than 18 to the gallon.

Those are different speeds. Like first gear second gear and third. Do you know how to drive manual. Thats towing / snow / hill options then there is overdrive those have a push button switch most of times.

D is used more for the city. . Like when you are going to be using the brake constantly. . . D1 is used more for the highway, when you are rarely going to. Be using the brake. . . . If your car is guzzling gas more than normal than get it checked, it prob has something wrong or needs a tuneup

All the advice is good, however 18 MPG isn't bad for that car. I doubt that you can significantly improve the milage. Don't pay any attention to factory milage claims; mainly you get about half of the advertized numbers.

For every day driving you should run in overdrive . That orange drive is the overdrive . If your pulling something then use regular drive .
